Film director Gareth Evans was born in Hirwaun, South Wales, and earned an MA in screenwriting from the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales). After settling in Indonesia and making a string of acclaimed martial-arts action movies, including Merantau, The Raid and The Raid 2, he returned to Wales with his family.
